Other Info: This first Japanese teaser poster debuted in late '79, to let everyone know that the second film in the Star Wars trilogy was headed their way. The poster has the ominous Darth Vader headshot photo, with glimmering helmet, set on a black starry background. The tagline from the film is found below the Japanese title logo スター・ウォーズ 2 帝国の逆襲, and it says, "The Star Wars Saga Continues". Right below the slogan is a smaller English language title. The whole poster is framed with a nice white border, and what is most unique about this poster is that it has the number "2" shown at the end of the extruding red lettered Japanese title. Presumably it was supposed to mean that the upcoming film was the sequel to "Star Wars", however, on the second Japanese Empire Strikes Back teaser poster and all other subsequent poster printings, it was omitted. The cast and credits are located at the bottom, mostly in Japanese with the text paragraphs centered. The 20th Century Fox, Dolby System, and the Eirin (映倫 54183) emblems, along with the copyright (© 20th Century Fox) are printed amongst the credits block area. Very few copies of this large poster are still circulating, however, it is often easier to find this version versus the second Japanese advance teaser poster.
