Other Info: This quad is the first regular release Return of the Jedi campaign poster used in the British theaters created, by Ronald William "Josh" Kirby. Kirby always worked slowly and meticulously on his illustrations, and he created this poster artwork using a character montage of heroic swashbuckling and fantastic event imagery. The poster has an overall black and blue cosmic overtone, with lots of flowing vivid colors throughout. In the center we see Luke Skywalker swinging bikini-clad Leia to safety from the bridge of the Khetanna. Both Lando Calrissian and Han Solo are flanking their sides, with their laser blaster pistols drawn. To the left of Han Solo is a dour-looking Gamorrean Guard and a smaller Boba Fett, firing his EE-3 carbine rifle. In the upper left-hand corner of the quad, is the tagline, "The Saga Continues", with the Return of the Jedi logo, in white lettering just below. You will also see the "U" classification rating just atop the new Death Star II construction, with a fleet of TIE-fighters heading toward the space station. Below the main bravado centerpiece, and to the lower right, are smaller character images and scenes showing the many conflicts and action sequences, from this epic tale. They include a Biker Scout racing on his speeder bike, Lando fighting off a skiff guard, C-3PO and R2-D2 looking startled, Boushh leading an incarcerated Wookie into Jabba's palace, a stoic Master Yoda headshot, the sniveling do-gooder Bib Fortuna, and an image of the desert skiff, during the Battle of the Great Pit of Carkoon. Towards the back of the drawing is a selection of wall paneling from the Imperial DS-1 Orbital Battle Station, and a large side view of Darth Vader's helmet. In the upper right-hand corner are several of the Emperor's Royal Guards. The poster's cast and credits billing block are located in the lower left-hand corner and it has the usual 20th Century Fox and Dolby Stereo box emblems. Kirby's last name signature can also be found near C-3PO's foot. This British Return of the Jedi poster's layout, has more artwork, than the second revised version, yet it omits the sentient furred bipeds (Ewoks) from the design. George Lucas didn't want to reveal these forest creatures too early on in the advertising stage.

Variations*: This poster is rather common, but it comes in several slight variations - a test proof of this artwork, printed on a thick glossy paper with extra vivid coloring - (shown above at 30"x40"), and a regular paper stock variation found in both (27"x40" and 30" x 40") dimensions. The shorter cut versions were used in the London Underground railway system and it was also given out commercially to movie fans and businesses to help promote the film.
