USA Revenge of the Jedi Advance Teaser 2nd Version One-Sheet
Other Info: This is the infamous Revenge of the Jedi dated "Coming to your Galaxy" one-sheet teaser. The artwork is a favorite amongst collectors worldwide, because of its beauty and mystique. It has red and black contrasts with Vader's large ominous helmet in the background. Inset on the lower right-hand side is Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader in their epic lightsaber duel, just above the film's title. The art direction and design for the poster were done by Bill Pate and the photographic special effects were done by Ron Sato of Satographics. Drew Struzan then came in and did all of the retouching of the illustration. The poster was to be used for the advertisement campaign in theaters for the 1982 Christmas season, however, when 20th Century Fox Studios decided that they were not going to use this second advance version, even though some had already been printed and distributed to theaters, they sold the majority of the print run (roughly 6,800 remaining) through the 'Star Wars Fan Club' for $9.50 apiece. The posters sold out really fast. Luckily this advance artwork did get some use on several international theatrical posters, including in Mexico and the United Kingdom. (Tag style info - Printed In U.S.A. / The Revenge of the Jedi Teaser One Sheet) Interesting Note* - A lot of times when you see this one-sheet up for sale on eBay, it still comes with the original tube from the studio addressed to the recipient.
Variations*: Two version printings of this poster exist - one without a date / one with a date.
Bootlegs*: Three or four versions are known. One reason that the 2nd version was successfully bootlegged more often than the 1st version, was because people have had more access to it. Things to look for - apparent fold lines in a rolled poster, the coloring of the poster is off, along with murky print detail in certain areas of the poster and a cloudy look to the 20th Century Fox logo in the lower right-hand corner.
