Other Info: This poster is one of the most easily recognizable and collectible movie poster artworks of all time. It contains the traditional Thomas Jung illustration and is a favorite among all Star Wars fans. This unreleased and uncut-proof poster was printed using the Pantone Color Matching System (PMS - is largely a standardized color reproduction system. By standardizing the colors, different manufacturers in different locations can all refer to the Pantone system to make sure colors match without direct contact with one another.). It was the first full rendered printing of the artwork/text sent to 20th Century Fox, for approval, but it was rejected because the coloring was too brownish and it had an unlikable yellow tone. Because it was never used or released, very few copies of this poster were ever circulated out to the general public. Also, all copies have the GAU logo cut off and they are missing the third line of text on the bottom border because of misaligned printing plates. Subsequent printings of this poster were done using the CMYK color model which needs four plates to create the different colors versus using PMS's single proprietary color numbering system. Interesting Note* - No PG rating box was on these first Pantone proof one-sheets, in effect making them international versions. There are also copies of this poster with the credit area billing block blank.
